We founded Urban Ground in 2011 to ensure we could get a great cup of coffee, after many years working in hospitality in London, where great coffee was everywhere. Back then, the specialty scene in Eastbourne was virtually non-existent so intrepid pioneers we became.
The plan was to create a space that was similar to the awesome ones in the capital that were leading the 3rd wave with silky flat whites and delicious artisan sandwiches and cakes. After 6 months of searching for a suitable site, we found a greengrocer who was retiring in Bolton Road, and 8 weeks later we opened the doors on our new venue.
Our success and growth have been driven by our dedication to great customer service, exceptional coffee and delicious food served in a relaxed contemporary environment for the community. This has always been the cornerstone of our business plan and we have a wonderful team who believe in our ethos. We are blessed to have regular customers who have supported us from those first few days and even some of the team who started in the first year, are still with us.

Urban Ground baristas prepare every drink to a specific recipe to make sure you get a perfectly crafted coffee every time. We are always working to hone our skills whether we're tasting, tweaking grind settings or trying out new latte art designs.
Our roaster, Square Mile, expertly source, import and roast the best quality green beans from the around the world and have led the way in specialty coffee for over 10 years. Our house espresso, Red Brick, changes several times a year to reflect the global harvest and to complement the season.
Keep an eye out for our free coffee tasting events and guest roasters from around the country.
Flavour is everything! This is our rule when we create our menus and some items have proved too popular to take off the menu since we started. Our Pastrami flatbread with mustard mayo, pickles and spinach has become a legend and is a firm favourite with our customers. This is followed closely by smashed avocado on toasted seeded sourdough, with chilli flakes, lime and rocket and then the moreish Pastel de Nata which always sell out.
We prepare our food on site daily and can usually cater for most dietary requirements all day. Our daily changing soup is always veggie and often vegan. We also stock cakes and traybakes which can be gluten free or vegan.
Our milk comes from Northiam Dairy, whose herds graze on the rich pastures of the Kent and Sussex borders. Their milk is unsurpassed for quality, and makes a beautiful creamy texture when steamed.
Dairy free alternatives also pair well with our coffee so expect to find oat, almond and soy milk.
